PRRs (Preventative Resin Restorations)
PRRs (Preventative Resin Restorations) are flowable resin coatings placed into the lightly prepared pits and grooves of your teeth.
The pits and grooves of your teeth are prime areas for opportunistic decay to develop. Even regular brushing may not be enough to adequately clean these deep intricate structures on the chewing surfaces of your teeth. By cleaning and placing a PRR in these pits and grooves we can significantly reduce the chances of developing decay in them.
The pits and grooves are first lightly prepared with a dental handpiece or air abrasion (please see the section on Air Abrasion under pain management). Both of these techniques are very conservative and pain free. Once the pits and grooves are prepared they are "etched" with a mild chemical substance. This allows the PRR to better adhere to the tooth structure. A bonding agent and a flowable resin is then applied to the tooth and cured with a warm light source.
